In 1946, Joseph Stein a young entrepreneur only 21 years old at the time left his family’s grocery store business to start a metals recycling business called Birmingham Iron & Metal. Birmingham Iron & Metal focused on buying and selling various different kinds of steel products, as well as, steel drums
Just as Mr. Stein got his business up and running the United States Government drafted him to serve in the Korean War in 1951. While Mr. Stein was at war serving our country his mother and fathe
r kept the recycling business moving forward. Soon after the Korean War ended, Joseph’s younger brother Gaston who just finished college wanted to join his brother’s recycling business.
Joseph welcomed his younger brother to the business in 1958. In 1964 the brothers opened a new business called H.S. Metals and at th
e same time they bought their first crane together. Around 1980, Joseph and his brother Gaston parted ways.
David and Jason Stein are continuing what their forefathers started by increasing the companies Ferrous and Non Ferrous intake. David and Jason recently added another material handler crane to their growing fleet of material movers and handlers in order to better service the companies customers.
Brothers Recycling has become a leader in Ferrous and Non Ferrous material processing in the state of Alabama servicing many metropolitan areas throughout the Southeastern United States. In today’s environment burning out the vehicle is not necessary.
